Digital Radio DAB
Digital radio offers many distinct advantages as opposed to traditional analogue transmissions. The main, and perhaps most important point to make is that it sounds better. Digital radio also offers a lot more choice with more stations given licence to broadcast nationally on a digital frequency. Current stations, like Radio One, will also be assigned sub-channels that could broadcast a dedicated news service or even regional traffic information.
Digital radio will also be able to transmit images along with the actual audio signal. In the future it will be possible to connect your DAB tuner to a computer and while you're listening to some music, you'll be able to view a photograph of the band and read a text based biographical summary of their career.

Another key benefit of this technology, that is possibly going to appeal more to the in-car user, is that stations will broadcast on the same frequency throughout the country. This means that should you move from say London to Edinburgh you'll not need to re tune your DAB radio.
